OneIndia24News: Andhra Pradesh reports over 10.6K coronavirus cases, death toll crosses 3.6K

Earlier this month the state had reported more than 10,000 cases a day for five consecutive days till August 9, and for three consecutive days in the previous week. Andhra’s public health bulletin on Thursday evening said 92 more persons succumbed to the infection in the 24 hours till Thursday morning.

Andhra Pradesh reported 10,621 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, making it the second consecutive day of reporting over 10,000 cases after recording similar numbers on Saturday. The latest count pushes the state’s tally to 393,090, which includes 94,209 active cases.

Earlier this month the state had reported more than 10,000 cases a day for five consecutive days till August 9, and for three consecutive days in the previous week.

Andhra’s public health bulletin on Thursday evening said 92 more persons succumbed to the infection in the 24 hours till Thursday morning, pushing the death toll in the state on account of Covid-19 to 3,633.

The number of recoveries since Wednesday morning stood at 8,528, taking the total number of recoveries in Andhra to 295,248 so far.

A statement from the AP Covid-19 command control room said, 61,300 samples were tested in the state in the 24 hours since Wednesday morning, pushing the total to 34,79,990 tests so far. This makes Andhra the fourth-highest in India after Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra in terms of the total number of samples tested.

East Godavari (1,089), and Prakasam (1,020) reported new Covid-19 cases in four digits while the other 11 districts of Andhra registered fewer than 1,000 cases each.

By Thursday morning, the state has tested 65,168 samples per million persons, more than double the national average of 27,813 tests. The state’s rate of new positive cases stood at 11.30%, above the national average of 8.57%.
